SuperFoodsAreTheyReally

The term ‘superfood’ is one that has been long debated and disputed as having any validity for quite some time now throughout the medias limelight. It seems that for every claim made there is someone else debating it’s truth . However many of these super foods speak for themselves … So what’s all the hype about then ?? . Well a super food is one which is said to hold above average , if not incredible health benefits and one which provides a high level of nutritional value and promotes a greater ability to boost its benefits to the human body . So basically if we are to choose foods that belong to the super food category then we have a greater ability in providing our bodies with a powerhouse of nutritional goodness at a faster rate than if we maintained a diet with primarily foods that contain less benefits . To me that makes sense … If a food source can be jam packed with substance that is the driving force to promote healthier minds and bodies then I say let’s get as much of those foods being consumed as possible .

What foods then belong to this category then ?? Let’s take a look at some that have been deemed to fit the criteria – * Black Beans – 15 grams of protein per cup and no saturated fat !! Fantastic vegetarian protein option . * Avocado – can act as a natural appetite suppressant , healthy source of fat and is full of protein and fibre . * Oats – fantastic carbohydrate and fibre source , can assist in lowering cholesterol , helps burn fat and boost metabolism . * Berries – ultra high level of antioxidants , anti inflammatory properties . Helps boost the immune system.

* Sweet Potato – contains potassium , carotenoids , vitamin C , helps to stabilise blood sugar and I’d a great source of carbohydrate. * Kale – high levels of beta carotene , folate , iron and fibre. Source of protein and vitamin C.

Now these are just a few to get you started but there’s a whole lot more out there to try and include in our daily diets . Super foods can help prevent disease and boost our immune systems and help to fight infection and illness . But the moral of the story is – the more nutritional value our food can contain, the more benefits it will contribute to our overall health and well being … That’s pretty super in itself !
